Budapest Airport: Boarding pass to a new world
Budapest Airport is more than just a workplace. BA is responsible for the efficient, safe and secure operation of Ferihegy Airport, Hungary’s aerial gateway, a vast complex fifteen times the size of Margaret’s Island in Budapest. This task requires a strong company; BA employs more than 1400 people and is one of Hungary’s top one hundred enterprises in terms of sales revenues. The efficient operation of the airport does not just have a positive impact on the company, but on the Hungarian economy as a whole.
Budapest Airport is 75% owned by a consortium led by the German company HOCHTIEF AirPort, and 25% in the ownership of the Hungarian state. HOCHTIEF Airport is one of the most experienced airport operators in the business, with stakes in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Sydney, Tirana and Athens airports.
BA is a diverse community including graduates of the humanities and economics as well as various technical, safety and security professions. The company’s activities are just as manifold as its staff; the operation of the terminals, runways, car parks and hundreds of airport facilities all fall within the responsibilities of Budapest Airport. Consequently, the company’s revenues come from several main sources, primarily passengers, airlines and tenants. Ferihegy handles eight and a half million passengers and 50 000 tons of air cargo a year.
This is an exciting time in the history of the airport. BA’s owners are committed to making Ferihegy the most successful airport in Central-Eastern Europe. To this end, the company will invest a total of 261 million euros, around 65 billion HUF, in developing and modernizing Ferihegy. A new terminal building and new aprons will be built, thus expanding the capacity of the airport. Developments of this scale have not been seen at Ferihegy for two decades.
Budapest Airport provides a strong economic background, an international environment and long-term prospects for its employees, as well as something else, felt only by the residents of this high-security city. To work at the airport is not only a matter of prestige, but also a unique experience. Budapest Airport’s employees amass unforgettable experiences at a dynamic company in perpetual motion, and one of Hungary’s best known facilities.
