The university will probably spend the money on educating one or more talented students. According to the relevant agreement, the department and Budapest Airport will establish a joint committee, which will be responsible for selecting the student or students whose studies will be supported from the donation, as well as defining the manner of its use. The university would like to spend the grant primarily on educational purposes, such as financing foreign study tours, language learning or professional further training.
The value of the donation is increased significantly by the fact that Budapest Airport has suffered a significant revenue shortfall due to the bankruptcy of the Hungarian national carrier Malév, and is therefore using virtually all available means to minimize losses, cut costs and achieve savings. But the grant is a clear indication that event at a time of frugality due to this unexpected crisis, the airport operator still considers the various forms of corporate social responsibility to be important. Last year Budapest Airport worked out a comprehensive strategy for responsible operation, also earmarking significant funds for such purposes, but due to the bankruptcy of Malév it has been forced to review and temporarily suspend its donation policy.
