Budapest Airport will thus play a significant role in the umbrella organization of European airports, which is currently working on solutions for the biggest challenges in the industry, such as rising aviation security costs, the unprecedented structural transformation within the airline industry and the need to cut carbon dioxide emissions. In connection with the latter issue, awards were handed out in several categories during the gala held the previous evening, and Budapest Airport was highly commended for the eco-innovation award, behind the winner, Munich Airport.
With this award, ACI Europe recognizes airports’ outstanding environmental performance, in particular, innovative approaches to environmental management. The recipients of this award achieved an excellent performance in environmental awareness, carbon dioxide management, stakeholder involvement and the improvement of emissions and noise indicators. The commendation of Budapest Airport in the environmental category is an indication that the company has taken complex steps in environmental management and sustainability over the past years, whereby it has managed to drastically reduce its carbon dioxide emissions, water and electricity consumption, amongst other achievements.
