Budapest Airport honours outstanding aviation partners following record-breaking 9 million year

Budapest Airport hosted its 8th Annual Awards Ceremony on 29 January, recognising those airlines and other closely-held business partners which stood out in various domains during its record-breaking year. Having served more than nine million passengers, an all-time high in the airport’s history, the evening was a chance to honour and thank airlines, concessionaires, ground handlers, tour operators and other partners which worked together to continue the enhancement of Budapest’s aviation and retail development in 2014.

Some 300 guests from the airport’s carriers, operations partners, concessionaires and many other agencies and enterprises attended the evening. By also promoting the bud:sport theme throughout the evening, the airport underlined its prominent upholding of the sporting values of never giving up, team spirit, a “can-do” attitude and a continuous desire for development.

Best Performing Airline – Wizz Air. Abrán György, Chief Commercial Officer: “Budapest is our home on many levels and we have considerable pride that 2014 was an all-time record traffic year for both Budapest Airport and Wizz Air – after all our fortunes are bound together. All of the employees of both enterprises are recognised with Budapest Airport’s award of Best Performing Airline – an incredible achievement we have delivered together.”

Best Newcomer Airline, Low Cost Carrier – Pegasus Airlines. Burcu Alin, Sales Manager: “The award of Best Newcomer Airline – Low Cost Carrier is tremendously important recognition for our product because we work here in Budapest, and everywhere, in such an overwhelmingly competitive sector. Pegasus operates a point-to-point service, as well as many connections, building and providing a bridge between the people of Hungary and Turkey – people who genuinely want to travel and do business in our respective countries while enjoying our great low fares and very reliable service.”

Highest Load Factor Growth, Low Cost Carrier – Ryanair. Chiara Ravara, Sales & Marketing Executive: “Budapest is a very competitive market so the fact that Ryanair has won the Budapest Airport award for Highest Load Factor Growth (Low Cost Carrier Sector) tells us that people love the new family and business orientation of the services offered by the Ryanair-Budapest Airport base and that this is proof that they are showing their approval by taking our superb value, ontime flights from this great city in ever-greater numbers.”

Summing up the experiences of 2014 and speaking at the ceremony, Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport said: “Tonight is a great chance for us to say a personal thank you to all our aviation partners and recognise those achievers who have contributed to the fantastic airport performance in 2014. It is also poetic that the awards are held in the Terminal 1 Event Center which still holds so much history for Hungarian aviation.”

Budapest Airport united with US once again

In a major piece of network development Budapest Airport has announced the resumption of US services today, as LOT Polish Airlines confirms flights from the Hungarian gateway to New York (JFK) and Chicago O’Hare. Welcoming the arrival of regular 787-8 scheduled services, the first flight due to launch on 3 May 2018, with New York being flown four times weekly and the Chicago sector operated twice-weekly. The return of US services comes after American Airlines and Delta Air Lines left the Hungarian market in 2011. More »

TAP Portugal back at Budapest Airport

TAP Portugal has taken off again from Budapest Airport after a 14-month break, marking the resumption of the Portuguese flag carrier’s link to Lisbon. Budapest Airport strengthens links to Ukraine

Budapest Airport’s expectations for further development in 2017 continue with the welcome arrival of new airline partner Ukraine International Airlines. Launching a daily link to Kiev Boryspil on 15 June, utilising its fleet of two-class configured 737-800s, the Ukrainian flag carrier will face no direct competition on the 908-kilometre sector. Budapest Airport names Wizz Air’s 10th new link of 2017

Budapest Airport is celebrating Wizz Air’s 10th new route announcement of the year, naming Bordeaux as the ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) latest link. Budapest Airport announces Ryanair expansion

Budapest Airport, having already confirmed 12 new routes for 2017, continues to enhance its route network and announces Ryanair will be launching a further three new routes. Having recorded 20% growth in passenger numbers from the Hungarian gateway last year, Ryanair will add another 9 weekly flights to its continuously-expanding services from Budapest, the low-cost carrier (LCC) confirming new links to Valencia, Edinburgh and Prague.
