The airport’s CEO Jost Lammers,gave a brief speech prior to the Awards ceremony: “2011 was a recordyear in terms of passenger traffic performance and we must never for get that were ached over 8.9m passengers thanks to our airline partners,” he said. Acknowledging the collapse of the country’s nationalairline, Malev, earlierthismonth, he added: “Business continues and we have been very pleased with the fast recovery of some of the lost traffic already, though there is still much to be done. Looking a head, we need to ensure that Hungarian aviation grows from Budapest, the capital city, as history shows that it is what people are looking for. We know that one million extra passengers bring over a thousand extra workstations and major positiveeffectsfortheeconomy. It is important that all stakeholders work together to make us competitive within the marketplace.”
