Route research

In 2013 Budapest Airport continues the Route Survey, which shows the passenger mix of each destination on a quarterly basis. Therefore, Route Survey provides statistically relevant information every quarter about the passengers of certain destinations and flights.

Departing passengers are interviewed in the departure lounge immediately prior to boarding.

To ensure the availability of a statistically relevant sample quantity for each flight in 2012 we are interviewing 100 passengers on each destination every quarter and 300 passengers on TOP destinations. The fieldwork is conducted in such a way that all relevant flights (morning, afternoon, night time) is covered. We use a quota, also taking working days and weekends into account, to ensure that we get an accurate picture of overall passenger traffic for each flight and destination.

The following topics are explored in the questionnaire to be used for the survey:

• Destination, stops along the journey, terminal stop
• Airline
• Duration of stay abroad
• Purpose of journey
• Frequency of travel
• Frequent flyer program
• Booking process (who decides, how, when, based on what)
• Nationality
• Sex
• Age
• Companions
• What is the purpose of the journey
• How was the ticket purchased
• General flying habits
• Demography
