Budapest Airport will offer ninety-four destinations from thirty-six airlines from the end of March 2009. Three new airlines, EuroAir, Iberworld and Scandinavian Airlines are expected to launch flights from Budapest. The latter is returning, since SAS had already been present at Ferihegy. This will be the first time that Iasi (Jászváros) will be added to the list of cities directly accessible from Ferihegy. Malév launches six flights a week to the northeastern Rumanian city. This area had been a blank one on the map so far.
Numerous airlines have decided to increase the frequency of their flights, that is, to fly more frequently between Budapest and another city than in the 2008 summer schedule. There will be sixteen flights a week to Zagreb, for example, nine to Helsinki and four a day to London-Heathrow. Another novelty is Lufthansa’s flight to Milan six times a week. Norwegian Air now also flies to Copenhagen and Stockholm, which is especially good news since with the disappearance of Sterling last year, there was large demand to expand contacts to the two northern cities.
Additional new features include Wizz Air’s new flights to Madrid and Naples, and the low cost carrier’s 44% expansion of the London/Luton-Budapest route.
The summer schedule has taken effect on 29 March.
